The European Council for Plasticisers and Intermediates (ECPI) partnered up with Crain Communications and European Plastics News to organise the Plasticisers Conference 2011 which took place in Brussels this week. During two days, close to 60 international experts discussed about the future of the industry, its products and their applications.

This event was seen as a useful platform for members of the plasticisers industry to learn about the latest developments in the sector, network with company representatives and establish new collaborations.

Key topics included an essential update on plasticisers and phthalates, an overview of public and digital media perceptions, human biomonitoring, plasticiser migration, cost-competitiveness of PVC products and new scientific results on PVC-plasticiser interaction. A look at VinylPlus and the work ahead regarding the sustainable use of additives was also included.

Maggie Saykali, Sector Manager for ECPI, explained: “This conference has been a great opportunity for the whole plasticiser community to get together and learn from each other’s experiences in such a fast-evolving sector. ECPI was thrilled to be able to provide the necessary technical support to bring in key experts from all around Europe.”

Sue Rothwell, Crain Communications Business Development Director commented: “the partnership of EPN and ECPI for this event is an innovative step and has definitely brought a new dimension to the event. This has moved the event beyond a ‘talking shop’ to a real debate between the industry leaders and the convertors and transformers. A real event for the industry, by the industry”.
