Trimellitates are produced by the esterification of C7-C10 alcohols with trimellitic anhydride (TMA). Common esters in this family are TOTM, TINTM, L79TM and L810TM. Due to their low volatility, these plasticisers (US: plasticizers) are used in the automotive industry, for example on dashboard PVC skins, and in the insulation or sheathing of electrical cables for high temperature. The lower migration rate and extraction resistance of these plasticisers are their main advantage.
