These plasticisers (US: plasticizers) are made by modifying the structure of fully hardened castor oil – extracted from the seeds of the castor oil plant – with acetic acid. The resulting acetylated glycerol monoester has a low molecular weight, improving the compatibility and processability of the plasticiser. Expected PVC applications for such esters are toys, bottle cap liners, screw cap liners for e.g. jam, teething rings, cling film, tubes and conveyor belts in the food industry and medical equipment. They also find a limited use in calendered vinyl flooring.

In addition to these, there also acetylated glycerides based on glycerol, acetic acid and fatty acids like lauric acid in the market.
