ECPI meets the Polish chemical industry

07 Mar 2017

March 2017 - A few days ago, representatives of the Polish chemical industry, PVC converters, competent authorities as well as government representatives and academics gathered in Warsaw for a workshop organised by ECPI, the European Council for Plasticisers and Intermediates.

The event, sponsored by VinylPlus, the sustainability programme of the PVC value chain, and supported by PIPC, the Polish Chamber of Chemical Industry, was part of a broader strategy aiming to promote dialogue among industry and government stakeholders of European countries, understand common challenges and opportunities and share experiences.

Presentations ranged from the chemical and plasticisers industry trends in Poland - with insights provided by P. Kwiecień, PIPC, and J. Pokora, Grupa Azoty[1] - to plasticisers characteristics, regulation and applications, with presentations given by the ECPI secretariat and ECPI’s member companies.

“The plasticisers industry has an important role to play in Europe and the eight members of ECPI alone employ approximately 1,200 people in plasticisers production in Europe, to which should be added all the jobs linked to the PVC value chain from manufacturing to recycling” stated ECPI's manager, J.L. Wietor.

ECPI is the voice of the European plasticisers industry and is deeply involved in VinylPlus, the voluntary sustainability commitment of the PVC value chain. “One of ECPI’s main objectives - explained J.L. Wietor - is to promote the safe and sustainable use of plasticisers and raise awareness about plasticisers’ contribution to everyday wellbeing through many essential applications, such as roofing membranes, cables and wires, medical devices, and even sealants and adhesives”, he concluded.
