Citrates

Citric acid is the starting material for a number of citrate ester plasticisers (US: plasticizers), such as tributyl citrate, acetyl tributyl citrate (ATBC), triethyl citrate, acetyl triethyl citrate and tri-2-ethylhexyl citrate. These plasticisers are used primarily to plasticise vinyl resins in applications such as toys, pacifiers, medical devices and packaging films. Tributyl citrate is largely used in food-wrapping cling film.
