Benzoates / Dibenzoates

Benzoate plasticisers (US: plasticizers) are obtained by direct esterification of benzoic acid with alcohols . They are used primarily in adhesive and sealant applications such as Polyvinyl Acetate – PVAc - based adhesives, latex caulks and polysulfide sealants, but also used in PVC plastisols for spread coating applications, like flooring or wall-covering which require plasticisers with low viscosity and fast fusing properties for higher processing speed. In recent years, production of monobenzoates like IDB (C10 alcohol) and INB (C9 alcohol) have received increased interest, being used as secondary plasticisers in flooring applications, replacing viscosity depressants like TXIB contributing to indoor emission (VOC).
